2021 Jeep Wranger 4xe
A Hybrid Wrangler is Finally Here
The brand new Jeep Wrangler 4xe is an eco-friendly hybrid that strikes the fancy of Jeep fans who are want to do their part in preserving the environment Jeeps are made to explore. Jeep has introduced the first-ever plug-in hybrid Wrangler and I am stoked about it. Hold your Prius jokes because the electric Wrangler keeps up with the OG gas-only Wranglers. The 4xe stunts solid Dana 44 axels, all-wheel drive, 10.8-inches of ground clearance, and is about to go through 30-inches of water with ease. If your first thought was water plus high-voltage equipment usually don’t mix, never fret, the high-voltage electric components are waterproof and sealed tightly. As a matter of fact, the Wranger 4xe is actually more powerful than the gas Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe will produce 375 horsepower and produce 470 lb-ft of torque with one electric motor that is at the front of the turbocharged 2.0L engine and another mounted on the front of the 8-speed automatic transmission. The 4xe will produce 20 lb-ft of torque more than the 6.4L Hemi that is in the Rubicon. The 17.0-kWh lithium-ion-nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack is housed underneath the flip-up backseats for easy access. The plug-in port will be located on the left front part of the Wrangler making it easy for you as the driver to hop out and plugin.
Speaking of the electric motor, let’s take a look at how quickly it can charge. Using the Level II charger, the battery can be fully charged in 2 hours. The Level I charger completes the charge in 12 hours so it is perfect for an overnight while the Level II is great for a quick charge between errands. The battery has an all-electric range of 21 miles and a total driving range of 370 miles. Never worry about your range again while you are out exploring the world around you. Go ahead, get lost. You won’t run out of range. The Wrangler is the most fuel-efficient Wrangler in the lineup. You can switch between three E Selec settings, electric, hybrid, and eSave which rely solely on gasoline to save your battery for when you really need it.
On the outside looking in, the exterior of the Wrangler 4xe looks like a normal Wrangler besides the charging port, 4xe decal, and blue accents such as the tow hooks and the hood decal. The interior mirrors the exterior while continuing the cool blue accents throughout. I personally love the Electric Blue stitching you see on the seats and trim panels. It gives it a pop of color and who doesn’t love a Wrangler that’s a little different than the rest.
2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Pricing
Pricing has been updated by Jeep and the Wrangler Sahara 4xe will have a starting MSRP of $47,995 with 12 exterior paint choices and 2 interior color options of black or Dark Saddle. The Wrangle Rubicon 4xe starting MSRP is set at $57,085 with 10 exterior color options and the same two interior color options. The top of the line Wrangler High Altitude 4xe starting MSRP is $53,570 and has 4 exterior color options with Black or Steel Gray interiors.
Overall, I think a hybrid Wrangler is a step in the right direction to keep up with the hybrid world. I think it will be slower to catch on because most people love their gas or diesel Wranglers but once they see the possibilities of a longer range in the hybrid Wrangler, they’ll catch on.
