Local Event in Salisbury, MD
Run SBY is hosting a 5k, half marathon for those who are only half crazy, and a full 26.2-mile marathon for those all-out crazy runners. The Salisbury Marathon, Salisbury Half Marathon, and a 5k are happening Saturday, April 3, 2021, right here in Salisbury, Maryland. As of March 11, 2021, the governor of Maryland has lifted all travel restrictions so all of our out-of-state runners will be able to participate in the event but they are suggesting you take self precautions. The event is allowing up to 1,000 participants with 400 in the marathon, 400 half marathoners, and 200 5k runners. They plan to separate runners into 4 waves of 200 people each. The marathon and half marathon runners will be separated by 15 minutes each. Each wave will also have a staggered start time by 5-10 seconds between a few runners. The times will be CHIP times rather than a singular gunshot start. Your time is individual to you and starts when you cross the start line.
The Run SBY marathon will be a Boston Marathon Qualifying event for those interested in running in the Boston Marathon. The course is USATF certified and is also designed for adapted athletes as well! Adapted categories exist for those individuals and adapted teams. There will be a seven-hour time cap which equals out to a 16-minute mile pace, very doable. If you are planning to qualify for the Boston Marathon, remember you will need to meet their qualifying times. The route has an elevation gain of 489-ft. Race The race will start at 0700 and end at 1400 on April 3, 2021. There is a registration fee of $110 and the price will increase on March 26. There are currently only 49 spots left so hurry before it is too late. The half marathon spots are already filled but there is a waiting list. If you are interested in the half, I would recommend keeping an eye out for that list. The 5K is only $35 to register and will begin at 0730 on April 3. There are currently 68 spots available but they are filling up fast. You can also opt to run this race virtually! That’s pretty cool I think. The virtual race is $70 to register. I am not sure about all the logistics for the virtual race but I have linked the website.
As far as the aide stations go, there will be multiple aid stations 1.5 miles apart. They will be stocked with water, sports drinks, pre-packaged snacks, and gels. The delivery system to participants is still being worked out but the runners will absolutely have the water and supplies they need. Port-O-Johns are also available at every station if needed.
Even if you are an avid runner or just starting out, local events like the RunSBY is a great way to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. Whether you’re full-out crazy, half crazy, or just doing it for fun, we hope to see you out there!
